Fic: Valentine's Day

Hi!

(I don't really know where to post this fic, I hope it's good to be here. :))
This is my second fic written in English (the first one is from 2008 :D), also I haven't written anything in any language for about five years now, so I hope this story will be understandable - or even a bit enjoyable, too. :) If you find any grammar mistakes or wrong spelling, etc., feel free to tell me.
It's just a little fic for Valentine's Day about Fraser and Ray K.

Title: Valentine's Day
Fandom: Due South
Rating: Teen
Relationship: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Tags: Fluff, Pre-Slash
Summary: Idiots in love

"You know, you really should say something to the Yank, son...", Bob Fraser suggested.

Benton Fraser closed his eyes and began to rub his forehead. Why now, dad? You give me a headache. Why can't you be just some decent and silent spirit, who just observes?

Ray Kowalski just stood in front of Fraser (at least he wasn't able to see the ghost of Fraser's dead dad; no one at the precinct was) and defensively raised his hands. A sudden gesture, as if he already regretted to give Fraser that envelope. It was pink. For real.

Fraser froze, still couldn't say a word.

Ray's eyes widened as the panic rose in his chest.

"Aaargh, I knew I shouldn't have... I'm so stupid!"

He ran his long fingers through his hair, his face contorted. Almost like he would have been a child on the edge of crying.

"Sorry." He turned around and starting to walk with large, quick steps. Away from Fraser.

Fraser just took another look at the pretty colored envelope and then held out his hand to the other man.

"Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray!"

Ray Kowalski stopped and watched Fraser in dread silence. His eyes could have told volumes.

"Ray, you know..." Fraser cleared his throat, his voice was more quiet and huskier than usual.

"You know, Ray, it's slightly common to give Valentine's Day presents to your friends. Or family members... According to an early tradition, Saint Valentine was a martyr who lived in the 3rd century, restored the eyesight of his jailer's blind daughter, and later he wrote a letter to that daughter signed: Your Valentine as a farewell before his execution. So this holyday is not actually about... romantic love"—Fraser swallowed and all at once blushed—"it may be all about... friendship and familial bonds, too."

He turned away his gaze. The paper files on the nearby desk suddenly looked amazingly interesting.

"You're a freak." Ray grinned.

"Understood." Fraser nodded and faintly smiled then pulled something out from behind his back. It was also an envelope. Red.

"Oh, my, noooo..." Ray started.

"What's in it? I mean, you shouldn't have to..." Ray scratched his head and grabbed the letter in his trembling hand.

Fraser didn't say anything, just slowly walked away with his pink envelope. He glanced back above his shoulders. Ray still stood there, smiling expectantly and carefully opened his Valentine card...

Sweet and timely!

(I don't offer beta remarks if a writer hasn't asked for them, but since you did ask: "farwell" should be "farewell" and there should be a closing quotation mark after "familial bonds, too".)
